What is a Water Bottle Bong?

A water bottle bong is a DIY bong that we can make inside our house using easily accessible objects we use almost regularly, it also involves a water bottle just like the name suggests. It is easy on our pockets and usually only made for emergencies. A water bottle bong can get you through a week before you buy a new bong next weekend.

Do Water Bottle Bongs get you higher?

Water bottle bongs don't add to the high. But it is certainly more effective if you have sub-standard quality stuff. Water bottle bongs work exactly like a real bong. The mechanism involved is the same, only the tools are replaced with easily accessible replacements. These bongs are equally effective and thus they are so popular.

Do Water Bottle Bongs filter out tar?

The working of a water bottle bong is such that when you burn the weed in the cone, the smoke through the pipe reaches the water in the chamber. The water then absorbs most of the tar and shoots the smoke further above in the chamber. The tar isn't filtered completely, but it isn't as bad as smoking a roll. After a few shots, you can spot some amount of tar at the tip of the bottle's mouth.

This article below has all the important details and instructions that you can follow to make yourself an effective water bottle bong. Unlike regular bongs, they do not require frequent sanitation. However, cleaning the pipe and changing the water inside the chamber every once in a while is recommended.

Why do people use Water Bottle Bongs?

People prefer water bottle bongs because it's easy to make and they don't have to carry them along. They can simply make another one for another sesh. Another reason why it's so popular among stoners is its effectiveness. It works just like a real bong. Each shot is worth your stash. It is also a great way to reuse plastic available inside your home.

Requirements to build a water bottle bong

You're going to need:

  1. A plastic bottle
  2. A sheet of aluminum foil/ A connector from your dish cable
  3. A pen
  4. And a lighter.

Step-by-Step Process to Making a Water Bong

Step 1: Dent a hole in the water bottle

You take a plastic container and form a hole inside the bottle. You remove both the label and the lid of the bottle beforehand. Make sure the spot you choose is at the bottom end of the bottle, preferably at or a little below the two-thirds of the bottle. One can use a lighter to heat the surface to make a hole.

You don't burn the surface completely, just enough for the surface to be soft and still sticky. You can also form a hole if you light up a cigarette and place the burning end on that spot. With the bud still in your mouth, you exhale the smoke. This will fuel the flame and the burning end will make it through the surface. Thus, forming a small hole in the bottle.

Step 2: Disassemble the pen and dent another hole

Once the hole is made, you take your pen and disassemble its ends leaving it open on both sides. You push the tube of the pen inside the bottle through the hole, and that pen will act as the pipe/stem of the shooter you've been using in your bong.

Once this is done, you can form another hole as the choke. Again, you can use either of the methods to form this hole. You should form this hole at the upper end of the bottle, so, it's convenient to cover while you take the shot.

Step 3: Leakage Test

Now, we do a leakage test on our bottle. You fill the bottle with some water, cover the choke, and inhale through the opening of the bottle. If you hear the sound of the water bubbles forming inside the bottle, your bottle and hole are leak-free.

Step 4: Shooter's Tip/Cone

Once we're sure the bong isn't leaking, we move forward to the next step which is preparing our cone. We use our aluminum foil and fold it conically so, it shapes itself into a cone. Once the cone is formed, we place it at the end of the stem that sticks out of the bottle.

Another replacement for our cone can be an easily available dish cable connector that is already in a shape suitable for storing our strain. There's no aluminum foil or folding required. Since it's a metal, it can be reused and the heat won't disintegrate its structure.

Step 5: Ready To Use

Once we've placed our cone on the stem, our homemade bong is ready to use. Crush the buds into fine pieces and pack the aluminum cone/connector. Cover the choke and light your stash. The bottle soon fills up with smoke, inhale the smoke into your lungs. Enjoy the high while it lasts.

Relevance of a Water Bong

This type of bong is widely used in various parts of Nepal and India. A lot of people use bongs out of the popular beverage like Coke or Sprite bottle. This bong is cost-effective and easy to make because of its simple mechanism and widely available prerequisites.

However, these bottles can only be used temporarily and should not be treated as a replacement for commercial bongs made out of glass or ceramics.

The lifespan of a Water Bottle Bong

The lifespan of a water bottle bong is not as durable. Because it's made out of plastic, burning weed mixed with plastic will have adverse effects on your health after a while eventually. It's wise that you use it for a week max until you purchase a new bong or make another water bottle bong for that matter.

Do not stick to one bottle for a long time. Sanitation One should always make sure to clean the pipe to prevent clogging before starting a smoke-up sesh. The tube of the pen isn't as hard to clean, you could use an earbud to clean it.

Apart from the tube, you also need to clean your cone after every few shots as it can block the flow of your shot when you take it. The last sanitation procedure includes replacing the water in the chamber. Make sure you only pour clean water after you've cleaned the chamber.

Price of a Water Bong

The pricing for a water bottle bong is well within 100 rupees if you break down the components that we used for its production. It's easy on our pockets and in most cases, it's for free.

Because all the components are already available inside our homes. A water bottle or a beverage will cost you less than 50 rupees. A pen adds 20 more to it, a cable connector adds 20 more rupees for the cone. That's all we need for our homemade water bottle bong.

Recycling a Water Bong

Making a DIY water bottle bong also contributes to the noble cause of recycling. We are reusing plastic water bottles which otherwise would have been thrown out and added as a pollutant for land pollution. As many water bottles that you use for bongs, help recycle the plastic waste. Not just the bottles, but the other components as well, they help in the reuse of those components.
